Mr. Brian Wirtz has been acquiring and redeveloping large apartment communities for nearly 30 years. He joined one of the first NYSE listed apartment REITS (now known as AvalonBay) at its IPO.  Mr. Wirtz also held a senior VP role at Essex Property Trust. During the 1990s, he played a pivotal role in the nascent large scale apartment redevelopment industry. He has been responsible for the purchase of over 15,000 apartment homes valued at over $1.3 Billion. West Coast cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle deliver only a fraction of the housing demand. Mr. Wirtz pioneered execution strategies transforming existing inventory, much of it run down and unsafe, into modern communities by replacing antiquated plumbing and electrical systems, as well as providing modern finishes, in-unit washer dryers, and resort style amenities. He founded his own investment company in 1998 which later merged into the San Francisco office of The Bascom Group. Company founders are all alumni from the highly rated University of Wisconsin’s Real Estate and Urban Land Economics program. Mr. Wirtz’s investment partners have included the largest life insurance companies and pension funds including CalPERS, Metropolitan Life, Mass Mutual, and Oak Tree Capital. Outside of Bascom, Mr. Wirtz’s Multifamily Investment Partners has lead ventures partnered with ultra-high net worth family offices, including his initial partner, Bay Area real estate icon William Wilson III. He is also CEO of The Wirtz Family Foundation, which focuses on promoting strategies to improve America’s ineffective affordable housing industry.
